Last night the magnificent, tall, lithe, ebony-skinned Ghanaians brought on a play called Pimpong.

This sounds like someone with a speech impediment saying the words "table tennis".

Are there any other players with names similar to activites played out in draughty provincial church and war memorial halls under the watchful gaze of the local Rector?

I can think of Jimmy Darts of the U.S.A last time around and Mpnezi Parishcouncilmeeting of Zaire in 1974.

There is of course the Spanish midfielder Ivan Campo, who after endless mickey taking at the Reebok stadium decided to lose the double-barrelled 'nology' from this surname.

Not quite the same, but I did note that last night Italy had to face the combined intellectual might of Mensah.

1) Which is the odd one out:

A. ()
B. :-O
C. *
D. (o) (o)

2) Complete the sequence:

:) :D  :(

etc.

I was particularly disappointed that Appiah for Ghana wasn't pronounced as "Up yer".

Any right thinking bottomist would give the player that from his mouth.

And aren't most youth club evenings spent checking out the (spotty) Totti?
