I am sure we will all give Five Live some stick in the next few weeks, but I must say that Pougatch's intro to Five Live Sport this evening had me leaping up and down with excitement.

World class. World cup!

um yes, the coverage has dipped.

Graham Taylor 7.20pm - "It's called the world cup. Not the 'just for special countries' cup."

Thanks for coming Graham.

I've missed all the Five Live coverage so far. I'm suffering at the hands of a malfunctioning tranny.

(Not the first time I've had cause to write that sentence...)

My Five Live highlight so far HAS to be a drunk Stuart Hall loudly proclaiming that English football would be in a much better state if David Cameron and George Osborne were decapitated and school children allowed to kick their severed heads around a field for practice.

"It's traditional! Aha-ha-haaa!" squealed Hall to stunned silence from the presenter.

He then went on to tell a deliciously bizarre anecdote about how baboons become sexual if you whisper to them in a very high pitched voice.

This was two weeks ago. He hasn't been invited back onto the live show since.

Yes! By Darwin's beard it be true.

If I remember rightly it was on the evening show presented by Mark Chapman (not the same chap who shot John Lennon. Um, at least I don't think he's the same man. Mind you, Lee Harvey Oswald's doing the phone in now, so you never know...).

I think it was the Monday before the budget was announced. Marvellous.
