Mine has to be the shot of Ian Wright, Alan Hansen and Martin O'Neill during half-time in the Portugal - Angola game sitting outside the BBC hotel in the early evening sunshine drinking white wine and arguing. Good. |

Not so much a moment but the fact that I'd forgotten just how grumpy, argumentative and downright misanthropic Martin O'Neill is as a pundit. I love him. |

My favourite O'neill-ism is when he interrupted Hansen mid flow to say "I've remembered what I wanted to say!.... It's very early days". Bless him, still as bitter as the day Grahame Souness broke his leg and ended his playing career, the source of healthy debate between himself and the ex-red contingent on the beeb I'm sure. |

Apparently John 'National Institution' Motson has been embarassed by the number of viewers pressing the red button to mute or switch to alternative commentaries when he's on. |

David Pleat's unnerving account of the challenge on Torres leading to Spain's penalty yesterday. "He's holding his pants there... a little tug on his pants." Just imagine it in his voice... Urggh! Makes a shiver run down my spine. Hang on... where did this erection come from? |

There is an undisputed winner to this. It was on Candian television, and involved the former Ipswich goalkeeper Craig Forrest (!) as their summariser. He was asked what the Mexican goalkeeper's state of mind would be, following the news of his father's death. His response was as follows: "The Mexican goalkeeper's father has just passed away. He'll be disappointed with that." Gee-Knee-Oos! |

Jon Champion. ITV. USA vs Italy. The ball flies into the italian net several seconds after the whistle has quite audibly blown. The score stands at 1 -1. "EQUALISER!". Wrong on so many counts. No apology forthcoming. Just lovely. |

Yeah. I enjoyed that. It was more of a full on Wrighty-kackle as well. Almost at a pitch that only dogs could have heard... but not quite so that I could hear it too. |

There was a nice moment on Radio 5Live last night involving Alan Green and Chris Waddle. It was when Italy hit the post at the start of extra time. Chris Waddle simply shouted: "ALAN GREEN!" There was a pause before "ACH MON. IT'S ALL OOVA ME TROOSARS" before Ian Dennis, who was actually commentating explained... "Alan Green has just tipped water all over the Radio 5 commentary team" cue high pitched laughter from Alan Green and much discussion about what the water had taken in, in it's trail of destruction, as Italy hit the bar... |

There was a moment on the ITV commentary last night when whoever it was, after praising Germany for having done such a good job of organising and running the World Cup, said something like: "That said, we have been eating Italian every night. I draw a line at pig's trotters." All the good german-praising efforts undone in a moment of pointless porkophobia. |
