My Dear Al (not to be confused with My Dear Alan), The answer is, of course, to install a saucer. This is a kind of small plate which has been designed for exactly the problem you are currently experiencing. Unfortunately, I am not an expert on saucers - only on cups - so I am unable to help you any further with this issue. Hopefully, though, I have pointed you in the right direction, and will be able to find a suitably knowledgable saucer-expert who can guide you in the process of selecting, purchasing and installing the device. Yours helpfully, - Mrs. K |

I heard that, if you have some basic engineering or DIY knowledge, it is quite straightforward to install them yourself, though protective clothing should be worn. |

I once injured myself while donning protective gear. Seriously, the rim of a construction helmet cut me above the right eye. There was no box for that kind of incident in the accident report form. |
