Edifying to see 'Elbows' Shearer and 'I-shag-anything-that-moves-and-sell obesity-inducing-snacks-to-children' Lineker leading the moral crusade against Portugal (Footie's Taleban) last night was it not...

The mood was leavened by Adrian Chiles, Marcel Desailly and Leonardo excitedly talking over each other in three completely different and equally incomprehensible languages. Excellent.

It was revealing how quickly Lineker got in with a defensive "but people don't care about that kind of stuff do they?" when O'Neill talked about Sven's priapic misdemenours souring his relations with the public.

Did anyone see Thierry Henry quite blatantly chasing the tail in the french crowd apres match?

"Hey Bobby, what's the french for televised adultery?".

It's the only way he'll ever score in a final etc, etc...

I watched Midsomer Murders instead.

It was awful.

Marginally more matter-slappingly dull, even, than a world cup game. At least they have penalties in them.

It is a disappointing state of affairs. Not the world cup - i mean the state of detective dramas.

Poirot is still entertaining but they only seem to make about 3 every couple of years.

The new Marple series (from the little I have seen admittedly) is a disappointment however - style (and cameos) over substance. Miss Marple was hardly in the episodes I saw - it may as well all have been happening without her. Curious.

Bring back Morse I say. Morse was spot-on.

Any thoughts?

Morse is definitly the daddy of them all. I must admit though, I did have a fondness for the Inspector Wexford mysteries and Inspector Dalglish.

Actually, now I think about it, on Friday when I had a couple of hours free I caught an episode of "Pie In The Sky" on ITV3. Bloody brilliant.

Frost is, and always has been, undercrackers.

ha hA! "undercrackers".

Did anyone the spin off series of Morse?

Just me then.

I say series, they only made one... it was appalling. Kevin Whately just couldn't carry it on his own. Morse solved the crime from beyond the grave by leaving some scrawled notes on a crossword.

Not. Good. Enough.
